We love their pizzas but not their irresponsible practices and apparently the CEO of Papa John's has been called a racist for using an irresponsible term.
Papa John's CEO has been called a racist
During a conference call with a marketing agency, John Schnatter, CEO of the pizza chain, decided to call African Americans by the nickname “N” or Negro. The Forbes portal revealed that in the call Schnatter was asked about how he would distance himself from racist groups online and his response left much to be desired.
“On the May call, Schnatter was asked how he would distance himself from racist groups online. “He responded that Colonel Sanders, CEO of the Kentucky Fried Chicken chain, called African Americans “blacks” and never faced backlash from the public,” Forbes shares.
It was also mentioned that Schnatter talked AQB Directory about his early years in Indiana and noted that people used to pull African Americans out of trucks until they died.
This quote led to the CEO of Papas John's being labeled a racist and having to publicly share an apology because he used inappropriate and hurtful language.
«Regardless of the context, I apologize. Racism has no place in our society,” she noted.
Interestingly, these comments were to show his opposition to racism. However, the interviewers found in these responses a sign of racism and irresponsibility.
What did the company say?
Once this scandal went viral, the company's shares fell approximately 4.2%, according to Forbes. However, the brand did not refute Forbes' allegations and shared that:
"Papa John's condemns racism and any insensitive language, no matter the situation or environment... We are proud of the diverse Papa John's family, although diversity and inclusion is an area in which we will continue to strive to improve.
