The general directors of criminal cooperation and other delegates from the ministries of Justice of the member states participate in the event.
The Coordination Committee in the field of Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters (CATS) meets today in the Permanent Module of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) in Ifema, with the aim of advancing criminal legal cooperation between the EU and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean , as well as the relations of the Member States with the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
The general directors of criminal cooperation and Fax Lists other delegates from the ministries of Justice of the Member States , delegates from the Directorate General of Justice of the European Commission, the European Public Prosecutor's Office and Eurojust , as well as the Secretary General, participate in the event. of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of Ibero-American Countries (COMJIB).
David Vilas, general director of International Legal Cooperation and Human Rights of the Ministry of Justice, represents Spain on this committee and chairs the meeting as Spain holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU. Vilas highlighted that “ cooperation with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the priorities of the Presidency and was a commitment made by both parties during the last summit between the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). ) held in July in Brussels.”
In this sense, at the XXIII Plenary Assembly of the COMJIB, held in June in Madrid, the Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop, valued Spain's role as a bridge between both parties and a relevant actor in the dialogue and generation of consensus.
The second session had as its objective the activity of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, two years after it began its operations . Issues such as the contribution of resources by Member States to the Prosecutor's Office have been discussed; the application of operational cooperation; as well as the relationship between Member States not participating in enhanced cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office.
